While understandably disappointed Fraser had ruled against him on both counts, Eby chose, after reflecting overnight, not to attack someone he’d earlier characterized as “a lawyer of great integrity and reputation,” and who his NDP colleagues had twice unanimously endorsed for the office of conflict commissioner.
“I accept the decision, “ Eby told reporters Thursday. “I accept that he did his best.”
But the decision also amounted to a de facto verdict that the system of party fundraising is broken in B.C. and needs a legislative fix.
With that, Eby signalled the New Democrats would turn their attention to a renewed campaign for a ban on corporate and union donations.
