Real Estate Association (BCREA) released a report this week saying that foreign ownership impacts less than five per cent of the market, and has little bearing on affordability for first-time homebuyers. David Eby, MLA for Vancouver-Point Grey, said that while the data may be true, the public will have a hard time taking the association at its word. ‘The public doesn’t see them as independent in this debate. Everyone sees the conflict of interest,’ he said. ‘The public is looking for independent, empirical data about foreign investment and speculation. That’s going to be the only thing that settles this debate.”’
