“The Vancouver hotel tax is going up 50 per cent on Tuesday to help pay for Tourism Vancouver’s increasing debt load from the new convention centre, NDP tourism critic David Eby said Monday.

“He said the 50 per cent increase in the hotel tax – it’s going to three per cent from two per cent as of Sept. 1 – is expected to further raise the cost of Vancouver hotel rooms in a competitive market.”
