“It really raises questions about the judgment of this government that, in the middle of a housing crisis, they’re out there promoting the sale of Metro Vancouver real estate overseas,” said NDP housing critic David Eby.
“That’s like California exporting bulk water out of the state during a drought. It’s bizarre.”
“The government should be refusing to use public resources to promote these companies,” said Eby, the NDP critic, who has already called for an anti-speculation tax on nonresident home buyers.
The New Democrats are also considering other controls on foreign real estate buyers, including possible restrictions on offshore purchases.
“We’re refining those things,” Eby said.
