The Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) sold its Vancouver warehouse facility in the 3200-block East Broadway last August for $36.9 million to a consortium of B.C. First Nations as part of ongoing efforts to streamline its distribution system.
At the time, government said it hoped to find a new warehouse by 2017, a timeline that has since been extended by at least a year, according the Ministry of Justice, which oversees liquor distribution in B.C.
Following the sale, the LDB entered into a three-year lease agreement with the new owners, with two one-year options to renew. In a recent letter from Justice Minister Suzanne Anton to the NDP’s liquor critic David Eby, the annual lease price was pegged at $1,445,149.
“They owned the facility and they sold it before they had somewhere else to go, and now they are spending millions to rent it back,” said Eby.
