Legal aid deal struck with BC lawyers
In March, I was very proud to announce an agreement with lawyers who provide legal aid services to vulnerable British Columbians to enter into formal negotiations for a long-term agreement that recognizes the valuable work these lawyers do across the province. Our province has now committed to almost $40m in funding for legal aid over three years, including last year, money that will help improve access to justice across the province.
Several legal aid clinics will be opening in communities across the province. This work is informed by a very helpful report prepared for the province by Jamie Maclaren, Q.C., a lawyer with expertise in legal work for low-income communities in the province.
