Kits Village December Recycling Depot

Drop off your clean plastics at our monthly recycling depot. Pre-sort your plastics and arrive no later than 6:45. (Please note that we can’t accept anything before 6 pm.)

Kits Community Centre, 2690 Larch Ave. The depot will be held in the patio outside of the south entrance to the community centre, immediately north of 12th and Larch.

Cost: Free.

Recycling categories:
1. Soft plastics, i.e. any plastic bags, wraps or packaging,
2. Hard plastics, i.e. any hard plastics (#1 thru #7, but w/metal parts etc. removed),
3. Styrofoam blocks,
4. Styrofoam containers (white), i.e. cups and food take out containers,

5. Styrofoam containers (other colours), i.e. cups and food take out containers,
6. Styrofoam peanuts and other “soft” styrofoam,
7. Wax lined beverage containers,
8. Foil lined bags (packaging and wraps).

If you’re driving, it’s best to park either on 12th Ave eastbound or on Larch south of 12th.

Day of the Longboat

Welcome to the Day of the LongBoat

September 28-29, 2019

This signature UBC event takes place on the shores of Jericho Beach with over 3,000 people paddling in the largest voyageur canoe race in the world. Your team races in either just-for-fun or competitive heats to the finish line. You can also enjoy games at the Day of the LongBoat festival, and the facilities at the Jericho Sailing Centre.

Plastic-Free Swaps and DIY Workshop

Event Info: Join Surfrider Vancouver for an educational workshop and discussion led by Regan Courtney, a Vancouver based Nutritionist and Wellness Coach. Learn how to make your own  “Chewy Coconut Granola Bars”, your own sugar scrubs and a chemical-free household cleaner and learn about plastic-free alternatives. Tickets are limited. Registration at 6:30 pm.

Community Food Mapping Event

Event Info: Researchers from SFU and UBC working in the Food Systems Lab are inviting City of Vancouver residents to attend a community food asset mapping and focus group event at SFU Harbour Centre on Wednesday, July 31 at 5:30 pm. Food will be provided.
