A major announcement was made just hours ago granting 50% of the federal property to three First Nations in BC. This decision to work cooperatively with First Nations by the Federal government likely avoids any kind of title litigation that may have delayed development of the property following this year’s Supreme Court of Canada judgment.
Previously, the Province of BC has indicated that they are likely to follow any agreement reached by the Federal government for their half (the Western side) of the property. I don’t have any news on that point currently.
You can read the breaking news about this deal here: http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/historic-joint-venture-will-bring-new-life-to-three-vancouver-properties-1952681.htm
I’ll let you know as soon as I have additional details, and I will be in touch with the Province’s representative on this issue, Andrew Wilkinson, to ask him what next steps the Province has planned given their earlier indications on following the Federal deal.
Yours truly,
David Eby
