Website launched to protect renters from bad-faith evictions

On July 18, 2024, a new website will be launching to protect renters from being evicted in bad faith while also improving the process for landlords. This tool will help prevent tenants from being evicted under false pretences and ensure that any landlord who needs to legitimately reclaim their units has a simple path to do so. Alongside the introduction of the website, landlords will be required to use the Landlord Use Web Portal to generate Notices to End Tenancy for either personal occupancy or caretaker use. Similarly, the amount of notice a tenant must receive and the amount of time they have to dispute an eviction will be increased from two months to four months and from 15 days to 30 days respectively. This is part of the provincial effort to better protect renters.
